Information Strategy

The steps below comprise a commonsense approach that can help you find relevant, quality information--for writing a paper, preparing a presentation, working on a lab experiment, answering a question, etc.

This Information Strategy consists of the following four parts:

  1. Evaluate ... questions to ask; how appropriate and valuable is the information that you have?
  2. Research Question/Define a topic ... what is the question(s) you are trying to answer? Secondary sources can help you shape and decide on your question--while also helping you understand concepts and find facts. Remember that true research is rarely a straight path.
  3. Identify ... these sources can help you find evidence to answer your question or back up an answer.
  4. Locate ... get that evidence.
